Joung Yumi

Director Yumi Joung graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and attended KAFA (Korean Academy of Film Arts) for animation directing. She has been creating animation and picture books ever since with her delicate and distinctive pencil drawing technique.

In 2009, her work Dust Kid, an animation, was invited to screen at Cannes’ Directors Fortnight.

In 2013, Love Games made its world premiere at Berlinale Shorts and won the Grand Prix at Animafest Zagreb.

Her latest work, Circle, was invited to screen at Berlinale Shorts in 2024, followed by Love Games (2013), House of Existence (2022), and Math Test (2010), making its fourth appearance. In 2023, The Waves premiered at the Pardi di domani section of the Locarno Film Festival.

In 2014, Dust Kid was published as a picture book and won the Bologna Ragazzi Award. The following year, her work My Little Doll’s House consecutively won the Bologna Ragazzi Award.

In 2019, Yumi became a member of the AMPAS (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science).

정유미는 대학에서 순수미술을 전공했고, 졸업 후 한국영화아카데미에서 애니메이션 연출을 전공했다. 정유미 감독은 특유의 세밀하고 섬세한 연필 드로잉 기법으로 애니메이션과 그림책을 만들어 왔다.

2009년에 연출한 애니메이션 먼지아이는 깐느영화제 감독주간에 초청되었다. 

2013년에는 연애놀이로 베를린국제영화제 단편경쟁부문에서 월드 프리미어를 가졌고,

자그레브 애니메이션영화제에서 그랑프리 수상작으로 선정되며 작품성을 인정받았다.

서클 (2024)은 연애놀이(2013), 존재의 집(2022), 수학시험(2010)에 이어 4번째로 베를린국제영화제 단편경쟁부문에 초청받았다.

파도 (2023)는 로카르노영화제 단편경쟁 부문에서 첫 상영을 가졌다.

또한, 먼지아이를 그림책으로 만들어 볼로냐 라가치상 (대상, 2014)을 수상했다.

이어서 나의 작은 인형 상자로 볼로냐 라가치상(우수상, 2015)을 2년 연속 수상했다.

2019년도에는 AMPAS(Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) 회원으로 공식 선정되었다.
